Gender-based violence prevention and response project (GBVPR) Phase II [PARIBARTAN]
The Gender-based Violence Prevention and Response Project Phase 2 (GBVPR-II) Project, also known as the Parivantan Project, is a collaborative effort between VSO/UNFPA and funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Nepal (NOR). Its primary objective is to combat gender-based violence and discrimination against women and girls in Province No. 1. The project focuses on specific areas including Biratnagar Metropolitan Municipality (Morang), Siddicharan Municipality, Manebhanjyang Rural Municipality, Molung Rural Municipality, Chisankhugadhi Rural Municipality (Okhaldhunga), Katari Municipality, Triyuga Municipality, Belka Municipality, and Chaudandigarhi Municipality (Udaipur). The ultimate goal is to significantly reduce all forms of violence and discriminatory practices based on gender within these regions.
Prevention, Tracking, Education, and Transformation (ProTEcT)
In collaboration with Plan International Nepal, the ProTEcT project was successfully implemented in Sunsari district, Nepal. Specifically, it was carried out in Barju Rural Municipality, Koshi Rural Municipality, Ramdhuni Municipality, and Barahchhetra Municipality. The project’s primary goal was to prevent individuals, especially children, from falling victim to human trafficking by mitigating situations that could lead to exploitation and ensuring their safety. Additionally, the project aimed to raise awareness about the issue of human trafficking, facilitate the rescue of vulnerable individuals, empower the local community to combat trafficking effectively and provide essential support to at-risk children and those separated from their families due to various circumstances. Overall, the ProTEcT project focused on combating human trafficking and addressing the challenges individuals face in vulnerable situations.
Child Protection Project
In collaboration with Plan International Nepal, the Child Protection project was successfully implemented in Sunsari District, Nepal. The project specifically targeted areas including Barju Rural Municipality, Dewanganj Rural Municipality, Haringar Rural Municipality, Gadhi Rural Municipality, Duhabi Municipality, Ramdhuni Municipality, Barahachhetra Municipality, and Inruwa Municipality. The project was designed to create a protective environment for children, ensuring freedom from discrimination, fear, and violence, with a specific focus on addressing child marriage and eliminating risks and exclusion. The project aimed to ensure that children, especially girls, received the necessary attention and care they deserved.
Ending the Trafficking of Children into Institutions in Nepal Phase II
In collaboration with Next Generation Nepal (NGN), the Ending the Trafficking of Children into Institutions in Nepal Phase II project was successfully implemented in Nepal from November 2017 AD to July 2021 AD. During the project, various activities were conducted, such as assisting in the rescue of children, providing periodic child support, conducting family searches, assessing families, offering psycho-counseling, and facilitating family reconnection and reintegration. These efforts aimed to protect the rescued children from the government of Nepal. Following their reintegration, continuous monitoring was carried out, and efforts were made to raise awareness among their families and community members to prevent displacement and exposure to risky situations.
The project also had objectives centered around empowering the youth. It provided scholarships to a limited number of youths selected by the organizations, with the aim of helping them become resilient and capable citizens.
Action against Child Trafficking (AaCT)
In Sunsari district, Common Forum for Common Issues (Cocon) in collaboration with Plan International conducted a project against human trafficking and trafficking from May 2013 to March 2016. The project was implemented with the main objective of facilitating The program was implemented at various levels with community and district level stakeholders.
In this project, capacity building and coordination and cooperation activities with the Human Trafficking and Trafficking Control District Committee were also implemented. At the same time, a 5-year strategy and a 1-year action plan against human trafficking and trafficking were prepared under the leadership of the Human Trafficking and Trafficking Control District Committee.
In this context, to support the 5-year strategy and action plan against human trafficking and trafficking in the Sunsari district, the project against child trafficking has been implemented since July 2017 in cooperation with Plan International. The objectives of this project are to increase the capacity of the Human Trafficking and Trafficking Control District Committee and the community to reduce the trafficking of women and children by supporting the action plan against human trafficking in Sunsari District, and to provide services for those who are at risk of human trafficking.
Pahunch
With the aim of increasing women’s access to security and justice, especially the marginalized and poor communities. K. Ed. “Access” project has been conducted in various 11 districts in collaboration with the cooperation of and search for common ground.
This program will help to improve the security and justice conditions of the marginalized communities in Sunsari district, especially the people of the community, to provide access to all. In this program, the youth, women and individuals of the community will be held together with the police, and by doing this, the relationship between the community and the police will be improved and a situation of mutual support and cooperation will be created.
Increasing access to justice for people from poor and marginalized communities, especially women, increasing awareness of law and justice-related legal provisions, rules and procedures, improving the environment of trust and mutual accountability between the police and the general public, and the general public, especially the poor, women And the objectives of this program are to increase the responsibility of the police office to provide necessary information and service facilities to marginalized communities.
The Constitutional & Human Rights Awareness Program
It is very important for the general public to understand the provisions of the constitution, which has changed with the process of bringing the country’s long-term transition period to a logical conclusion, and the changes that have come with the release of the constitution written through the representatives of the people sent to the Constituent Assembly, and the restructuring of the state based on that constitution and the elections at the local level.
is In this environment, with the aim of strengthening the constitution and human rights, increasing women’s access to justice, and developing the understanding of the newly elected public representatives and the community on the issues of women’s rights, the Common Forum for Common Questions (COCON) has launched the Legal Governance and Human Rights Protection System Improvement Program – UNDP With the help of GLME, the ‘Constitution and Human Rights Education Program’ was conducted in Jhapa and Morang Districts of Koshi Province with the aim of increasing women’s access to justice and ensuring women’s rights.
In particular, the program covers three areas, human rights education, entertainment. The main objective of this program is to increase the access to justice of women and marginalized communities by emphasizing on awareness and coordination and cooperation, and after a long time, to develop a consensus on the views of the elected representatives on this issue and to make the policies, plans, programs and laws made by the local government friendly to women’s rights. .
Child Friendly Space
About 50,000 people from about 10,000 households were displaced due to the floods that occurred in Sunsari on the 27th and 28th of Shravan. Although most parts of this district were affected due to rains and floods, the residents living around Sunsari river, Keshalia river and Budhi river were more affected. When Sunsari Khola and Budhi Khola entered the settlement along with the rains, the life of Ethari, Eenruwa, Bhokraha, Babia, Jalpapur, Aurawani, Dewanganj, Narsingh, Haripur, Sripur, Koshi, Barju Rural Municipality, Haringara, Dewanganj and other areas reached an extraordinary condition.
Although the disaster affected the village as a whole, the women and children of that place were more affected. In that situation, the people of the flood-affected area faced the problem of housing and daily livelihood on the one hand, and on the other hand, they were faced with the question of how to care for and protect their children. In solving the first problem mentioned above, after the natural disaster, many organizations and individuals helped freely, but the second problem remained the same.
In such dire situation, with the support of UNICEF Nepal and the coordination of Women and Children Office, Sunsari, the Common Forum for Common Questions (KOCAN) has mapped the places affected by growth and children at risk across the district and identified three different places, namely, Inaruwa 4 Khikhripati, Itahari 10 and Balachau in Barju village. And also paying attention to child development by establishing a child-friendly place. The main objective of this project was to provide psychosocial care and other services to children.
GBV Training to Health Worker
The Common Forum for Common Issues (Cocon) conducted seven four-day trainer training programs in Sunsari in collaboration with Plan International to provide health workers working in Sunsari district with easy access to justice for women affected by violence. In which health workers participated. In this training, the training materials on the role of health workers against violence based on gender discrimination, prepared by the Nepal Institute of Health Sciences, were used. During the conduct of this training, there was a resource person in coordination with the Nepal Health Science Training Institute.
Pregnant Women Group (PWG – Project)
A common platform for common issues, Kokan, in collaboration with Plan International Nepal, has completed a pregnant women’s group program – PREGNANT WOMEN’S GROUPS: AN INTEGRATED APPROACH TO REDUCE MATERNAL AND NEONATAL DEATHS IN NEPAL) in Morang and Sunsari.
In the past, 13 places in Morang where women’s group programs have been conducted and pregnant women’s groups have been formed are Ko Boudaha of Kathari Rural Municipality, Dhanpalthan Rural Municipality (Karsiya), Sunwarsi Municipality (Dainiyan), Govindpur of Ratuwamai Municipality, Gramathan Rural Municipality (Tetaria, Sidraha), Kanepokhari Rural Municipality, Bayarvan of Letang Municipality , Madhumalla of Miklajung Rural Municipality, Rajghat of Urlabari Municipality, Dangihat of Belbari Municipality, Budhanagar of Jahda Rural Municipality, Shiswani Badhara of Budhiganga Rural Municipality and Baijnathpur of Biratnagar Metropolitan Municipality, likewise eight places of Sunsari District, Bhokraha Rural Municipality, Prakashpur of Barahkshetra Municipality, Harinagar Rural Municipality, Amahibelha of Barju Rural Municipality, Dewangan Rural Municipality. , Inaruwa Municipality Chandbela and West Kushaha of Koshi Rural Municipality is an awareness and advocacy program at the community level with the aim of reducing the rate of pregnancy and later death of pregnant women.
